The World Trade Organisation (WTO) General Council has appointed Ambassador Adamu Mohammed Abdulhamid of Nigeria as the Chairperson of the Committee on Trade in Services Special Session, effective February 2025.
Before this appointment, Ambassador Abdulhamid held several key positions within the WTO, including Chairperson of the Trade Facilitation Committee (TFC), the Council for Trade in Goods (CTG), and the Trade Policy Review Body (TPRB). He also serves as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the WTO.
His selection is seen as a recognition of Nigeria’s growing influence in global trade governance and a commendation for the efforts of the current administration, particularly the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment, led by Minister Dr. Jumoke Oduwole and Permanent Secretary Amb. Nura Abba Rimi.
The appointment was confirmed during the WTO General Council meeting held on February 18, 2025.
