Unilever Nigeria Plc has commemorated its 2024 Transporters’ Safety Week recently, under the theme: ‘Pressure Dey, No Panic – Safety First.’
The week-long event, held at the company’s Mega Distribution Centre (MDC) in Agbara, highlighted Unilever’s dedication to road safety, operational excellence, and building a safety-first culture among its drivers and transport partners.
The event brought together key stakeholders from the logistics and supply chain sector, serving as a platform for collaboration, training, and recognition. Activities during the week included training sessions on Cargo Security, Defensive Driving, and Accident Prevention, facilitated by experts from the Nigerian Institute of Industrial Security and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Drivers also benefited from free medical screenings, ensuring they are fit and well-equipped for their demanding roles. In addition, interactive games promoted work-life balance in a relaxed and collaborative environment, reinforcing Unilever’s commitment to employee well-being.
Mr. Ayokunle Ajijola, Logistics Manager at Unilever Nigeria Plc, emphasised the company’s zero-tolerance approach to road fatalities during his address. He proudly announced, “This year, we are proud to share that there were no road fatalities across our transporter network. This milestone reflects our collective efforts in prioritising safety and fostering a culture of accountability.”
A key highlight of the event was the award ceremony, where outstanding contributions and exceptional performances in 2024 were recognised. Mr. Suleimon Mohammed, a driver from Oristetimeyin Logistics Limited, received the prestigious Best Performing Driver (Pan Nigeria) award. Presented by Bukola Olaiya, Customer Operations Excellence Manager, West Africa, the award celebrated Mr. Mohammed’s commitment to safety compliance, timely deliveries, integrity, and dedication to excellence.
The Transporters’ Safety Week remains a cornerstone of Unilever Nigeria’s broader strategy to enhance road safety, build strong partnerships with transporters, and ensure operational efficiency across its logistics network. Through initiatives such as this, Unilever continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering a safe, innovative, and collaborative work environment while recognising and rewarding excellence in its supply chain operations.
