United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group is set to commence full banking operations in France following a landmark business cooperation agreement signed by its Chairman, Mr. Tony Elumelu, during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to France.
The agreement, endorsed in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron and President Tinubu, was finalised with the French Finance Minister, Antoine Armand, signaling strong support from the French government.
At the signing ceremony, Mr. Elumelu highlighted UBA’s strategic vision of seamless international banking, bridging Africa and global markets.
“This partnership reinforces our commitment to seamless international banking services for our customers, not just across the 11 Francophone African countries we serve, but Africa as a whole; and French and European customers transacting with Africa,” Mr. Elumelu stated.
With Paris set to become UBA’s European Union hub, the expansion aligns with the bank’s mission to facilitate innovative financial solutions. The Paris branch will complement UBA’s presence in major financial hubs, including London, New York, and Dubai.
UBA Group is one of Africa’s largest financial institutions, employing over 25,000 people and serving more than 45 million customers globally. The bank operates in 20 African countries and international markets, including the United Kingdom, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and now France.
This development marks a crucial milestone in UBA’s mission to foster financial inclusion and drive cutting-edge technology across borders, further enhancing its global network.
UBA’s entry into France strengthens its position as a critical player in connecting Africa to global markets. With a focus on Francophone Africa and European partnerships, the move is expected to enhance financial integration, increase trade, and provide tailored banking solutions to a broader customer base.
