United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has announced the appointment of Mrs. Henrietta Ugboh as an Independent Non-executive Director, following the retirement of Mrs. Owanari Duke from the Group Board.
The appointment has received necessary regulatory approvals, including from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
UBA’s Group Chairman, Mr. Tony Elumelu, commended Mrs. Ugboh’s proven record of leadership and integrity, emphasising her role in bolstering the UBA Group’s governance framework.
“Henrietta Ugboh brings a track record of professional success, integrity, and leadership, which will further strengthen the UBA Group Board, underlining once again the Group’s commitment to robust corporate governance,” he stated.
Mrs. Ugboh, a seasoned banking professional, holds a degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Benin, an MBA from ESUT Business School, and has completed an Executive Management Program at Harvard Business School. Her career spans over 30 years with Citibank, bringing valuable experience in commercial banking, credit, and risk management to the board. She is also recognised as an Honorary Senior Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and is a Fellow of the Institute of Credit Administration (FICA).
With Mrs. Ugboh’s expertise, Mr. Elumelu expressed confidence in her impact on UBA’s strategic direction, especially as the bank continues to expand across Africa and internationally. “We look forward to her invaluable contribution to the Group as we continue to execute our unique growth strategy across Africa and globally,” he stated.
UBA also formally acknowledged the retirement of Mrs. Duke, who joined the Group Board in October 2012. She served on various critical committees, including the Board Governance Committee, Board Audit, Governance, Nomination & Remuneration Committee, Board Credit Committee, and the Finance & General Purpose Committee. Her leadership and dedication over the past decade have been integral to UBA’s governance.
Mr. Elumelu extended the Group’s gratitude to Mr. Duke, saying: “On behalf of the Board, we deeply appreciate Mrs. Duke’s dedication and significant contributions to the Group, and we wish her the best in her future endeavours.”
