Shell has been awarded the Best Overall Exhibitor at the recent 42nd Annual International Conference and Exhibition of the National Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE).
Also, at the event which was held in Lagos, Shell staff member, a Geophysicist, Mr. Somime Oguntola, received second place for the Award of Excellence for Oral Paper. Additionally, another Shell staff member, Mr. Johnbosco Uche, was inaugurated as the new President of NAPE.
Since NAPE’s founding in 1975, Shell has been a key supporter, leveraging its vast pool of energy professionals to enhance the association’s activities, particularly in education and mentoring. In its role as a major sponsor for the 2024 conference, Shell also staged an impressive exhibition that included career counselling, discussions on Nigerian Content and Contractor Development, and panel sessions on Women in Industry and the Sustainability Energy Challenge.
A notable aspect of Shell’s participation was the medical stand, where over 500 conference attendees and members of the public were provided with a range of healthcare services, including laboratory tests, medical consultations, deworming, ophthalmology checks, and the distribution of nearly 300 eyeglasses.
During the conference dinner, Mr. Ronald Adams, Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), reaffirmed Shell’s commitment to addressing Nigeria’s energy trilemma and driving energy security in a sustainable manner. He highlighted SNEPCo’s role in energy security, citing the continued production from the Bonga field, which has funded development, fostered a new generation of Nigerian deepwater professionals, and empowered local contractors and service providers. He also pointed to the company’s social investments, which have positively impacted communities across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.
“SNEPCo and Shell are in Nigeria for the long haul,” Mr. Adams stated. “Our commitment is evident in both our current operations and growth plans, all of which prioritise safety, affordability, and competitive performance.”
