The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has intensified efforts to open up locked communities through strategic investments in road infrastructure, according to Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking recently during the inauguration of a three-kilometre access road in the Giri District of Abuja, Mr. Wike emphasised the transformative potential of the project for the underdeveloped area.
The new road, connecting the Bill Clinton Interchange at Airport Expressway to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Academy site, is part of a broader initiative to address infrastructure deficits in Giri. The Honourable Minister noted that inadequate road networks have hindered the district’s growth compared to other parts of the capital.
“With an access road, everybody will come and develop the area, and that is what we are looking for,” Mr. Wike stated. He expressed optimism that the project would encourage development and enhance the value of plots in the area.
The project is being executed by Levant Construction Ltd and is expected to be completed within nine months. Mr. Richard Dauda, acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, highlighted the importance of the road, saying it would serve both local communities and critical institutions like the EFCC Academy.
Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, Executive Chairman of the EFCC, conveyed his appreciation for the initiative, describing Mr. Wike as a “bulldozer” for his commitment to infrastructure development. Represented by the EFCC’s Secretary, Muhammad Hammajoda, Mr. Olukoyede commended both Mr. Wike and President Bola Tinubu for their support.
This access road in Giri is one of three major road projects inaugurated by the Honourable Minister in recent days. Earlier, the Honourable Minister flagged off the construction of a 9.8-kilometre road from Kabusa to Takushara and a 10.5-kilometre road from Kabusa to Ketti.
Mr. Wike credited President Tinubu’s backing for the ongoing infrastructure push and revealed that the Giri road project would be among those commissioned to celebrate President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office in May 2025.
The development highlights FCTA’s commitment to unlocking the economic and social potential of underserved communities in the capital, paving the way for equitable growth across the region.
