The Dangote Group and its subsidiaries have received honours, emerging as Nigeria’s most tax-compliant business organisation at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Special Day during the recent Lagos International Trade Fair.
The recognition came as FIRS celebrated several businesses for their commitment to tax compliance, with Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) and Bluestar Shipping, a subsidiary, lauded for exemplary adherence to tax regulations. Dangote Cement Plc, Nigeria’s largest cement manufacturer, was also recognised in the ‘biggest taxpayer’ category for its outstanding contributions.
At the awards, Mr. Ishola Akingbade, FIRS State Administration Lagos Mainland, commended the recognised companies for their dedication to tax compliance, emphasising that such adherence significantly aids efficient tax administration.
According to Dr. Titi Fowokan, Head of Tax Compliance at Dangote Industries, the group’s achievement is rooted in a firm tax policy focused on “zero tolerance for tax non-compliance.” She explained that “as good corporate citizens, we comply with all relevant laws, including tax laws. Also, complying with tax payment statutory deadlines ensures that we avoid penalties and maintain our standing as a responsible contributor to the nation.”
Alongside these recognitions, the Dangote Group also received multiple honours at the 2024 FMDQ Gold Awards held in Lagos, stressing its active role in Nigeria’s financial markets. Dangote Cement Plc secured awards for Largest Commercial Paper Quotation and Single Largest Corporate Debt Issue on FMDQ, while Dangote Industries Ltd was celebrated as the Most Active Corporation in the Foreign Exchange Market. The FMDQ Gold Awards recognise participants in Nigeria’s financial markets who exemplify operational excellence, resilience, and significant contributions to market growth.
Dr. Fowokan further highlighted Dangote Group’s commitment to fostering a culture of compliance and corporate responsibility. “We pride ourselves on the Dangote Brand and seek to promote a tax compliance culture, which demonstrates our corporate responsibility to the government for the provision of public goods and services for the citizens,” she noted.
