The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has partnered with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) to launch an Application Programming Interface (API) service that opens access to verified company data for businesses, fintechs, and other private sector players.
The newly launched platform, revealed recently in Abuja, allows selected organisations, termed “super agents,” to securely access and retrieve CAC’s company registration data — a capability previously limited to government agencies focused on law enforcement and financial crimes.
“This is a response to customers’ demand for prompt services. We are now taking CAC services to the doorstep of our customers,” said Mr. Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, Registrar-General of the CAC. He noted that the partnership was built to improve Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance and enhance the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
What It Means for Businesses
Under the model, licensed super agents can customise CAC data to suit client-specific needs, such as verifying business identities or streamlining onboarding processes. However, sensitive personal data such as phone numbers and home addresses will remain restricted, in line with the Nigerian Data Protection Act 2023.
NIBSS, alongside Moniepoint, Opay, and Oasis Management Company Limited, were named as the first set of super agents to integrate the API.
“This service democratises access to data verification, ensuring it is secure, inclusive, and efficient,” said Ngover Ihyembe-Nwankwo, Executive Director of Business Development at NIBSS. “It is a game-changer for how public-private partnerships can deliver digital trust at scale.”
Mr. Magaji stated that the move allows banks, embassies, and financial service providers to retrieve verified company information in real time — eliminating the delays of manual requests.
With verified, API-based access, the CAC hopes to reduce fraud, support compliance frameworks, and accelerate onboarding processes for fintechs, legal firms, and regulatory institutions.
The initiative positions Nigeria’s digital identity and business verification ecosystem for greater transparency, speed, and private sector innovation.
